This year's meeting of the International Committee for Documentation (CIDOC) of the International Council of Museums will be held from August 22 to 26 in Ottawa, the picturesque capital of Canada. Hosted by the Canadian Heritage Information Network (CHIN), the conference will include a full spectrum of workshops, meetings, study tours, stimulating presentations and lively social events. Our theme this year is "Collaboration - Content - Convergence: Sharing heritage knowledge for the new millennium". Underlying the theme is the relationship between the vast reservoir of heritage knowledge held within our institutions and our heritage audiences, both specialized and general, whose needs we are trying to meet. Our goal will be to explore how documentation is influencing and being influenced by the rapid growth of new technologies and the corresponding development of audience expectations. We will attempt to understand the challenges that face us, and to define a future direction for the sharing of heritage knowledge based on collaboration, the creation of content, and the convergence of disciplines. |
