| Museums
and cultural centres play an important part in the emergence
of cultural autonomy in indigenous societies. The symposium
organised by the Canadian Museum of Civilization, the
University of Victoria and the Commonwealth Association
of Museums in May 1994 studied means of affirming cultural
autonomy and the need for a new approach to reserves
for indigenous peoples. The proceedings of the symposium
include papers, presentations and declarations from
round-table discussions and debates on the current situation
in a range of countries including Belize, Botswana,
Vanuatu, Canada and Australia. |
