An information centre for ICOM and UNESCO documentation
The centre's collections consist of:

• ICOM publications, ICOM archives, International Museum Office publications;
• UNESCO publications related to the protection of cultural heritage;
• texts of national legislation concerning the protection of cultural heritage;
• museum directories: international, national and specialised museum directories;
• publications and files on illicit traffic;
• publications and files on endangered heritage and urgent situations;
• photographs and slides on ICOM.

The centre's collections also include monographs, periodicals, museum catalogues which were transferred to the Documentation Centre of the Direction des musées de France and temporary exhibition catalogues which are stored at the library of the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts, quai Malaquais, in Paris. These institutions manage these collections thanks to a convention between ICOM and these libraries. The collections are available for consultation to ICOM members.

The data base of the Documentation Centre of the Direction des musées de France - MUSÉES - includes the references of books and periodicals which used to be at ICOM headquarters. It is available for online consultation on the website of the French Ministry of Culture.

The data base of the UNESCO-ICOM Information Centre is included in the CD-ROM produced by UNESCO under the title UNESCO Databases. This CD-ROM is sold by the UNESCO Promotion and Sales of Publications Division.

Information services
The UNESCO-ICOM Information Centre primarily serves ICOM members and the personnel of UNESCO by providing information about ICOM and its activities. The centre's services include: bibliographies, bibliographic searches, reference services, photocopying of articles from ICOM publications, orientation towards other information sources if necessary.

How to use the Centre
The information services are limited to ICOM members and the personnel of UNESCO. Enquiries on ICOM and its committees should be sent to the centre (by mail, fax or email), together with a photocopy of the membership card with the current yearly stamp or specification of the ICOM card number.
For on site consultation, the centre is open to the public from Monday to Thursday, from 2.00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Depending on availability of staff, non-ICOM members may use the library, but information services by correspondence cannot be supplied.

The centre reminds ICOM members, and particularly chairpersons and secretaries of ICOM committees, regional and affiliated organisations, that it would like to receive any publications (monographs, periodicals, reports) or documents (leaflets, brochures, etc.) produced by their committee or organisation. It also welcomes books, periodicals or any legislative texts of relevance to museums, museum ethics, protection of cultural heritage and fight against illicit traffic.
Members of ICOM who wish to develop the ICOM collection at the Direction des musées de France may send books, periodicals and materials related to museum management and museum practice to this centre. Please, indicate "ICOM collection" on your shipments.
