Commonwealth Association of Museums Association des musées du Commonwealth

CAM is a professional association affiliated with and supported by The Commonwealth Foundation in London. The objectives of CAM include maintaining and strengthening links between museums and museum professionals both within the Commonwealth and internationally. To reach this goal, the association works to promote high standards of museum practice and to improve the status of the museum within the community. CAM stresses the importance of professional training and development (including a Distance Learning Programme in basic museum studies), stimulates professional dialogue, and fosters collaboration among CAM, ICOM, ICCROM-PREMA and other international organisations. A General Assembly and a Commonwealth-wide project take place every three years, and during the triennial period smaller programmes are organised. Membership is open to institutions, associations and individuals from the Commonwealth as well as to associates from outside the Commonwealth.

La CAM est une association professionnelle soutenue par et affiliée à la Fondation du Commonwealth de Londres. La CAM vise à renforcer les liens entre les musées et les professionnels de musée dans le Commonwealth, ainsi que dans le monde entier. Pour atteindre ce but, l'association cherche à promouvoir un niveau élevé de pratique professionnelle et elle essaie d'améliorer le statut des musées au sein de leurs communautés. La CAM souligne l'importance de la formation professionnelle, notamment par un programme d'enseignement à distance en muséologie ; elle encourage le dialogue et les contacts entre professionnels et stimule la collaboration entre la CAM, l'ICOM, L'ICCROM-PREMA et d'autres organisations professionnelles. Tous les trois ans, l'association organise une assemblée générale et met en place un projet sur une échelle plus réduite. Peuvent adhérer à la CAM des institutions, des associations et, à titre personnel, des professionnels du Commonwealth. Les personnes et institutions qui n'appartiennent pas au Commonwealth peuvent s'associer à la CAM.
